We at Masters Preparatory expect our students to be held to the highest standards. This is true in every aspect of their education, relationships, and conduct. We aim to foster the development of intelligent, tolerant, thoughtful, and respectful citizens. It is in regards to this idea that we set our code of conduct.
Each classroom teacher will set their own code of conduct and classroom rules. Students are expected to know and follow these rules. Parents are expected to know the school’s rules and the rules of their child(ren)’s classroom(s). The disciplinary philosophy of Masters Preparatory supports the teacher’s right to teach and the student’s right to learn. A behavior which stops the teacher from teaching and/or any student from learning will not be tolerated.
Teachers will attempt to discipline students within the classroom. Depending upon the behavior, teachers may issue detention. If a student is consistently disruptive they will be sent to the principal’s office and will be issued detention.
All student discipline and punishment will be at the discretion of the school’s Principal.
| Behavior | Disciplinary Action |
| Disrupting Class (Talking, etc) | Teacher will issue one warning before issuing detention. If student’s behavior does not desist, they will be sent to the Principal for further action, and parent will be notified. |
| Bullying, Harassment, etc | MPS has a zero tolerance policy in regards to bullying and harassment. Depending upon severity of incident, student will be issued detention or suspension. Parent will be notified. |
| Violence, threatening behavior, fighting | Student will be issued suspension for 1-5 days at the discretion of the Principal. Repeat offenses will result in expulsion. Parent will be notified. |
| Theft | Student will be issued one day out of school suspension. Repeat offenses will result in expulsion. Parent will be notified. |
| Disrespect to teacher or staff member | Administration will determine disciplinary action based upon severity of offense. |

No student is to be taken out of school without clearance. Only the parent, legal guardian, or other persons previously designated by the parent or legal guardian may check a student out of school. All parties must comply with the school’s policies and practices for preventing unauthorized removal of students from school. The student’s safety may well depend upon strict observance of these policies. As education is our main priority, students will only be excused early for medical purposes.
The school shall be notified Three days in advance before a student is withdrawn. To avoid interruption of the teacher’s day, a student shall be withdrawn at the end of the school day. No student will be considered officially withdrawn unless released by the school administration.
Parents must sign a Release of records permission form to permit the office to send the child’s cumulative records or transcripts to another school. Records will be processed and forwarded as quickly as possible to the student’s new school, provided that there are no outstanding balances.
The school is equipped with a business telephone to help transact the business of the school and our lines must be kept open for this purpose. Children may not use the telephone except for emergencies. In the case that a child is ill we will notify you immediately. It is most difficult for us to accept messages for individual children without interruption of the instructional program. We will appreciate your cooperation in not asking us to deliver a message to an individual child EXCEPT IN AN EMERGENCY
Teachers will inform parents about necessary school supplies. Only with the teacher’s permission should a student bring personal toys, books, sport equipment, or pets to school. Items interfering with instruction will be removed and returned to parents. Valuable items (jewelry, cameras, clothing, ipods, etc.) should not be brought to school. The staff cannot be responsible for the safekeeping of such items. Money, except for lunch, should be for items sold by P.T.A. only. Spending money should not be brought to school. Lunch items are not to be sold or swapped among children. All personal property (including uniforms) should have child’s name in ink. We will be happy to return lost articles that can be identified when found. Please check office Lost and Found to recover belongings.
If you move or if your telephone number is changed, please notify the school office so that pupil records may be kept accurate and up-to-date. It is important to advise the school if the name and number given for the emergency contact is changed. In the event neither the parent nor the emergency contact person can be reached during an emergency, Miami-Dade County Rescue Department or the doctor whose name appears on the registration card will be called. Only persons whose names appear on the emergency contact will be permitted to pick up a child from school and identification will be required. Please be sure to include the names of any persons you anticipate may pick up your child in an emergency situation.
For the safety and protection of all students, visitors must always obtain a pass from the office before proceeding to a classroom. This includes parents. While we do encourage parental involvement, parents are not permitted to go to their child’s class unannounced during school hours. No child will be permitted to leave the building with a visitor (including parents) unless a release has been signed in the office. Please make an appointment any time you feel that you will need the attention of your child’s teacher. When the teacher’s attention is taken away from his/her students, even briefly, the class is disrupted. We appreciate your cooperation in providing a safe learning environment for our children.
